So you’re thinking about starting a blog but don’t know what to blog about?
You’re not alone!
Many struggle with this in the beginning because there’s so much to consider when you’re new to blogging.
When I first started my blog I really struggled with what blog niche to choose.
I love food, but didn’t want to write about food. And I went through this thought process with every topic I thought of!
The purpose of this post is to help you decide what you want to blog about, and I’ve included sub-topics under each main topic below. This helps to narrow things down if you want to focus on a very specific audience.
You want to choose a topic that incorporates these three things:
- Interest – How interested are you in the topic?
- Market – Is there a high market demand for the topic?
- Skills – What are you good at? Can you use these skills to create valuable content?
I will be updating this post regularly as new blog niches emerge, so be sure to check back in regularly!

Since the pandemic started there has been a huge increase of DIY projects with people spending more time at home.
From fire pits to bed headboards, there is demand for learning how to make your own household items.
If you are handy at something you could write How To guides on DIY projects, provide instructions and recommend where to buy the best materials.
You could also document your own DIY projects, writing about each step along the way.
Some ideas for DIY projects are:
- Patio furniture
- Woodwork furniture
- Wooden clocks
- Farmhouse decor
- Crotchet blankets
- Bed headboards
- Cushion covers
- Personalized photo pet cushion
- Slime or playdough
- Terrarium glass bowl
- Knitted wall hangers
- Wall decals
2. Sleep Yoga
No doubt you’re aware that yoga is a very popular form of exercise. It doesn’t look like it will be going anywhere anytime soon either!
If you have an interest in yoga or already do yoga yourself, consider starting a blog in this area.
Because of its popularity and millions of other yoga blogs out there, I would focus on a very niche form of yoga.
Some ideas could be that people follow along with your journey as a beginner yogi in one specific yoga area.
Or, you could write about doing yoga at one particular time of day. Yoga for sleep has gained huge popularity recently too.
What better time than teaching people how to improve their sleep with yoga before bed?
Do your research, conduct keyword research, search pinterest to see what’s trending and join facebook yoga groups. This will help you get a feel of what people are searching for relating to yoga.
If you haven’t heard of Japandi, according to Pinterest, it is where “Japanese design meets Scandinavian minimalism”.
You may have seen aesthetics like wooden decor has become increasingly popular in recent years. More and more people are searching for aesthetics that are minimal, clean and natural looking.
Following on from DIY, you could start a Home Decor or Interior Design blog and write ‘How To’ content on ways to update spaces in the home.
You could collate and gather images and create Pinterest Pins for decor inspiration in this particular area.
4. Spicy Foods
Folks this year are getting hot and spicy in the kitchen to jazz up their everyday recipes!
So if you love fun flavors with food and/or love to cook, it could be worth your while starting a food blog.
You may be thinking but there are already millions of food blogs out there!
Yes, there are, but you may have something unique to offer. And really there can never be too many recipes in the world!
I’ve noticed a spike in interest of foods that can go from bland to exciting with adding a little, or a lot, of heat.
Use Pinterest for inspiration and to see what is trending. Look at starting a blog and creating enticing Pinterest Pins to drive traffic to your new food blog.
Maybe you have a talent for something like embroidery or crotchet, or maybe you would like to start a hobby in this area.
If you are interested in starting a blog relating to crafts, you could document your learning in blog posts. You could share what you have found easy and what you have struggled with.
Perhaps you can help others who get stuck in the same places, share ideas, video your work and share it on your blog.
Why not join facebook groups and create an online community to discuss and share your ideas with likeminded people?

A great way to drive traffic to your blog in this niche is by creating and growing a facebook group.

7. Dream Travel
With international borders finally opening up around the world, there are plenty of people dreaming up their next escape.
You could start a blog and post your own experiences with places you have visited in the past, listing great restaurants and must sees and dos.
Or, you can write posts on all the places you dream of going to. What you want to do there and the steps you’ll take to actually get there one day.
I would anticipate that there are many couples who want to book their honeymoon as soon as borders open up and we near the end of the pandemic.
So, your blog could be just the inspiration that people are looking for.
This niche would pair perfectly with Pinterest, as people head their for inspiration! You could easily use Pinterest to drive traffic to your Travel Blog.

What exactly are alternative pets?? Say hello to furless friends!
Think tortoises, lizards, frogs and snails!
People are looking for alternatives to your usual fluffy friends, as they can be expensive and high maintenance. Not to mention they take up a lot more room!

Even if you have no experience with these types of pets, you can start researching and learn all you can to write content in this niche.
